Mamie McFaddin Ward Women’s Center Reopens After Transformative Renovation

In May 2025, the Mamie McFaddin Ward Women’s Center at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth reopened following a transformative renovation, unveiling a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to women’s health.

A Calming, Modern Environment for Care: The remodel elevated every aspect of the Women’s Center to better serve our patients. From expanded treatment areas and a new private entrance to redesigned, serene interiors, the space was intentionally created to provide a calming and supportive environment.

Advanced Technology Close to Home: A highlight of the renovation is the addition of two brand-new, state-of-the-art 3D mammography units, the most advanced technology available for breast health imaging. With these upgrades, women in Southeast Texas now have access to the same high-quality care found in major medical centers, without leaving the community.

“Technology is changing at a rapid pace, and it’s important that our community has access to the best technology, the best people, and the best facilities,” said Paul Trevino, President/CEO of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System. “With this renovation, CHRISTUS continues to deliver that level of excellence.”

Powered by Community Generosity: This $1.5 million project was made possible through extraordinary generosity, anchored by a $1 million gift from an anonymous donor and an additional $500,000 in community contributions. The CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation is honored to have been part of this effort and grateful for the support of the Mamie McFaddin Ward Heritage Foundation, whose legacy has long supported women’s and cancer care across the region.

Honoring a Legacy of Giving: Mamie McFaddin Ward’s passion for science and medicine lives on through her Foundation, which she created to support her community through health care and philanthropy. Today, her vision continues in the Women’s Center that bears her name -providing advanced technology, compassionate care, and a healing environment for generations of women.

Thank You for Making Putts for Pediatrics a Success!

What an incredible day!

Our inaugural Putts for Pediatrics mini golf tournament was a huge success, and we’re filled with gratitude for the community that made it possible. Thanks to the support of our generous sponsors, dedicated teams, and hardworking volunteers, we raised nearly $20,000 to benefit Children’s Miracle Network programs at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas, providing critical care and resources to children and families in our region.

We welcomed 14 enthusiastic teams to the course at Rikenjaks in Lumberton, where playful competition met meaningful impact. From team spirit to trick shots, the energy was high and the smiles were even bigger.

🎯 Challenge Hole Highlights

This wasn’t your average mini golf tournament! Teams faced off in a series of themed challenges including:

  • The One and Hole-y: Hole-in-One Challenge

  • The Flushing Fairway (yes, it involved a potty chair!)

  • Tipsy Ball, where players tested their precision with a wobbly ball

  • Hazard Zone, filled with obstacles that kept everyone on their toes

🏆 The Great Putt-Off

One of the day’s most memorable moments? A four-person putt-off showdown!
Miranda L. from Education First and Holly H. from Gulf Credit Union tied for Worst Player, while Michael E. from Whiteley Infrastructure Group and Brock B. from Entergy tied for Best Player. In a surprise twist, the four faced off in a final challenge, with Michael claiming Best Player and Miranda proudly taking home the title of Worst Player.

🌟 Thank You to Our Sponsors

A special shoutout to Entergy, our Title Sponsor, for leading the way in support and enthusiasm. Your partnership helped bring this event to life and amplify its impact in our community.

We also extend heartfelt thanks to every team, volunteer, and donor who contributed to this meaningful day. You brought energy, laughter, and heart — and reminded us why we do what we do.

A Heartfelt Thank You: The 42nd Annual CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation Gala

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation hosted its 42nd Annual Gala at the Beaumont Civic Center. This beloved tradition continues to be one of the most anticipated fundraising events in our region, and this year’s celebration was nothing short of extraordinary.

We were honored to welcome Grammy-nominated artist Gavin DeGraw, whose unforgettable performance lit up the night with crowd favorites like “I Don’t Want to Be,” “Chariot,” and “Not Over You.”

Powerful Moments That Made the Night

A highlight of the evening was introducing Tynlee Ivey, our 2025 Children’s Miracle Network Champion. After suffering traumatic injuries, Tynlee spent 19 days in our pediatric unit and made a miraculous recovery thanks to the expert care of the CHRISTUS trauma team and the generosity of CMN supporters.

In one of the most emotional moments of the night, Tynlee was presented with her CMN medal by Dr. Kavouspour, the surgeon who saved her life—and in return, surprised him with a plaque of gratitude, bringing the room to its feet.

Honoring Our Nurses and Investing in the Future

We were proud to spotlight the debut of the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Nursing Honor Guard, a powerful new initiative created to honor the legacy and service of nurses in our community. Through a moving video and live presentation, guests reflected on the impact of nursing care—and were invited to support or recognize a nurse in their lives.

CMN at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas is Thrilled to Introduce the 2025 CMN Champion, Tynlee Ivey!

Every year, 170 local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals select a “Champion” to represent the children treated at their facilities. These ambassadors share their inspiring stories, highlighting the importance of supporting children’s hospitals across North America. This year, we are proud to introduce Tynlee Ivey as our 2025 CMN Champion!

In May 2024, Tynlee, a 10-year-old from Warren, Texas, was traveling with her mother and siblings when their car was struck head-on by a truck. Tynlee, seated in the second row, immediately complained she couldn’t breathe and was rushed to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth in critical condition. While her mother and siblings sustained injuries but were stable, a CT scan revealed severe internal injuries for Tynlee, including lacerations to her spleen and liver, a contusion and laceration to her pancreas, a collapsed lung, and fractured ribs.

The trauma team quickly performed life-saving emergency surgery. Over the next 19 days, Tynlee fought a challenging recovery in our newly remodeled Pediatric Unit, funded by Children’s Miracle Network of SETX. Despite the obstacles, Tynlee’s incredible resilience shone through. Even as she was wheeled into surgery, she reassured her terrified parents, saying, “I’m going to be just fine.” Her strength and positive spirit inspired everyone around her, including her medical team.

Tynlee’s journey didn’t end there. Due to the accident’s impact on her pancreas, she was later diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Today, she manages her condition with strength and determination. Tynlee is now a vibrant 10-year-old who loves playing with her puppy, spending time with her siblings, and enjoying her favorite foods.

Her story is a testament to the exceptional care provided by the team at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth and the vital support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The newly remodeled Pediatric Unit, with its cheerful “Under the Sea” theme, state-of-the-art medical equipment, and comforting amenities funded by CMN, played a crucial role in Tynlee’s care and recovery. These include the central pulse oxygen monitoring system, portable x-ray machine, submarine-themed treatment tables, and comfort items such as custom blankets, themed hospital gowns, and PlayStation-equipped TVs.

Tynlee’s journey showcases the incredible impact of CMN and the power of expert, compassionate care. We are honored to share her story and celebrate her as our 2025 CMN Champion!

Newly Renovated Maternity Floor

We are thrilled to announce the completion of the newly renovated third floor, now dedicated to supporting expectant mothers and their newborns. In a special unveiling and dedication ceremony, the hospital celebrated the upgrades to the labor and delivery and mother-baby units—enhancements made possible by the generous support of community donors through the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation.

The renovations have brought state-of-the-art equipment and modernized spaces to both units, ensuring that moms and their families receive the best care possible. The labor and delivery unit now features 19 private delivery rooms, each upgraded with new bathrooms, birthing beds, fetal monitors, and innovative cableless fetal monitoring systems. These advancements offer moms the flexibility to move freely and find comfort during labor without being tethered to machines.

“Our rooms look incredible and bring an extra layer of comfort with new paint, floors, and technologies,” said Britni Hidalgo, Clinical Director of Labor and Delivery at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth. “Thanks to the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation and our community donors, we are proud to provide these extensive upgrades and new technologies to care for our mothers and their babies both before and after birth.”

The mother-baby unit also saw significant improvements, with 34 recovery rooms receiving fresh paint, new flooring, upgraded bathrooms, and advanced monitoring equipment to ensure mothers and babies are well cared for post-delivery.

“The cableless fetal monitoring systems are a game-changer for us,” Hidalgo explained. “The birthing process can be uncomfortable, and moms appreciate being able to move around freely. These new systems allow that, which can help make the experience a little more comfortable.”

Additionally, the renovations include updates to seven obstetrics emergency and surgery rooms, designed to provide additional monitoring and care for complicated pregnancies and scheduled cesarean surgeries.

Teri Hawthorne, Executive Director for the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Foundation, emphasized the critical role that community support played in making this project a reality. “We could not have achieved this without the generosity of our southeast Texas community donors,” she said. “These donations will have a lasting impact on our patients and their families, helping us welcome more newborns into the world and sending them home safely to bright futures.”

This exciting renovation reflects CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth’s continued commitment to delivering exceptional care for mothers and their newborns in an environment designed for comfort and safety.
